An instagram picture: Doric columns from the Temple of Athene now form part of the structure of the Duomo in Siracusa. Amazing to think of all the people who must have looked at and gone in there: Archimedes, Euripides, Cicero, Belisarius, Hiero to name but a few. History always comes alive for me when I see this sort of thing. Trying gently to get my kids to see the connections and resonances with themselves and our world.
