I was watching All This and Heaven Too this morning, a melodrama from 1940 with Bette Davis and Charles Boyer, when it struck me that when Tom does his famous “Ay love you” speech to the beautiful girl cat (“My love is a fire, a great roaring fire”—as Jerry is giving him a hotfoot), it is Charles Boyer’s voice that he is imitating.
