Duddleswell cheese

I bought some English cheese today. Good for you, I hear the doubters say, thinking no doubt of Red Leicester or Cheddar. Well, yes, but this was a little different, a beautiful sheep’s cheese from the High Weald Dairy in Sussex, via my local Planet Organic.

Duddleswell, our flagship cheese, is a hard pressed dale-type cheese with a natural rind, a smooth creamy texture and a delicious nutty flavour. It makes an excellent choice for the cheese board and is available as a 2kg truckle or as individual wedges and can be naturally smoked over oak chippings. SILVER MEDAL WINNER at the World Cheese Awards 2005.

It was a real eye-opener for me, semi-hard and very tasty, like a good French or Italian cheese. I’m going to see about ordering a full pecorino from them next, as that is undoubtedly my favourite cheese of all.

Go on, give it a try.
